Congratulations to Halil Canci (pictured) who is moving onwards and upwards to take on the exciting role as branch manager of our new Dagenham site!

Tell us about your career path – in a nutshell!
I joined JJ Food Service in 2010 as a business graduate from Birmingham City University. I started out in telesales where I got to know the business really well and then moved over to HR, where I was promoted twice to become senior HR coordinator. I really enjoyed this role because it gave me the opportunity to work closely with staff – this included coaching and guiding branch managers.
Three promotions in four years – that’s impressive! What’s driving you?
I thrive on being given more responsibility and it didn’t stop at HR. In 2014, I was appointed Quality Assurance Manager. Working in various departments and visiting all the branches regularly enabled me to develop a thorough understanding of the business and have a clear understanding of what best practice looks like.

How did you achieve the promotion to branch manager?
It’s important to have the right experience – which I’ve gained from working in various departments for six years – but even more important is my commitment to the job. I’m hardworking, loyal and always try to approach things with a positive attitude.
In addition to understanding the business operationally, I know what good service looks like at customer-level and I know our product range inside out. These will all add to the success of me running the new Dagenham branch.
What are you looking forward the most?
I enjoy being challenged so I’m mainly looking forward to pulling my sleeves up and getting stuck in to the job to create a profitable operation, while achieving a seamless shopping environment for customers and a fun, supportive environment for new staff.
What are you most nervous about?
My managers have given me a fantastic opportunity. They trust in me and I don’t want to let them down. I look forward to using my experience, skills and energy to drive the new branch forward.
